Welcome to the Ancrum Mountaineering Club. We are a small, friendly club based in the Dundee area although we do welcome members from further afield. The primary focus of our club is on hill and mountain walking throughout Scotland.
We have a regular meets programme with day meets on the last Sunday of the month and weekend meets usually the second weekend of the month. On weekend meets the club organises low cost accommodation in club huts, bunkhouses or camping.
Meets are very flexible and members are free to plan their own routes to suit their own ability. If you do not yet have the experience to look after yourself safely on the hills you will be able to walk with more experienced members.
There’s no such thing as a typical Ancrum walk. Some members choose to do big mountain days tackling multiple munros and perhaps staying out on the hills for 10 hours or more in Summer. Other members take a more leisurely approach doing perhaps one small hill taking just a few hours. If the weather is bad, coastal and forest walks are often undertaken. We walk in both Summer and Winter conditions. Winter hills in Scotland require additional skills but you will have the opportunity to learn these with the club.
You are responsible for your own safety and should be aware that hill walking and mountaineering, particularly in winter, is a potentially risky activity. The club does not provide leader led (guided) walks, and individuals must take responsibility for themselves.
The club is affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland and benefits from its insurance provision. There is an annual club membership fee which as well as covering club administrative costs also includes your Mountaineering Scotland subscription. As a member of Mountaineering Scotland you will be entitled to a range of discounts. The club committee is elected annually at its AGM in accordance with its constitution.
Prospective members are invited to join us for up to two meets as a guest of the club prior to joining. Get in touch for more information and to arrange to attend a meet.
Please note, we have no association with the Ancrum Outdoor Centre. Our club was formed by users of the centre who attended outdoor courses and wanted to keep walking the hills together.
