The Ancrum was saddened to hear of the passing of former member Harry Bowden after a short period of illness. Harry joined the Ancrum in 1979 where he was soon to meet his future wife, Liz. He served on the club committee in a number of positions including Chairman. During his time in the Ancrum he completed all the munros bar one (we think it may have been Carn Mor Dearg) and participated in club meets as far afield as the Austrian Alps and Moroccan High Atlas. Latterly his interests had turned to “bothy bagging” and searching out the lesser known unlisted bothies. On most of these adventures he was accompanied by the late George Sharkey, also a former Ancrum member.
Harry is survived by his wife Liz, still an active Ancrum member, and adult children Rick and Ellen.
Harry’s funeral will be held on the 6th January 11am at Lochee Parish Church and then to Birkhill Cemetery. There will be a funeral tea/wake afterwards at the Dundee Art Society Gallery, 17 Roseangle, Dundee.
