Has anyone spotted summer yet? Or was that it over the Easter Weekend? Despite the lack of summer weather we do have the longer daylight hours, and it being June, an Ancrum Member’s fancy turns to the hills for nice longer days up high amongst the lofty summits, the Ancrum June Weekend and perhaps a touch of Ancrum mid-summer madness. This June, in response to requests for longer days out in the Cairngorm area of a weekend, we are returning to a firm favourite, Milehouse. As a reminder, this is a good base for the Monadhliath, Glen Feshie and Drumochter Hills, as well as the main Cairngorm massif and such big days out as (mighty) Braeriach, Ben Bhrotan and Monadh Mor, along with Bynack Mor, Ben Macdui and Cairngorm and many more. The dates for this weekend meet are 21st-23rd June, mid-summer weekend- bring your druidic robes and oak leaves if you fancy.
Here’s the info: Milehouse is 1 mile from village of Kincraig on the road to Insh. OS map 35, Kingussie. GR NH839043. Milehouse has two rooms, one with alpine-style sleeping platforms with mattresses for 12 people, Pillows and blankets are provided but please bring your own sleeping bag and pillowslip, tea towel and towels.
We have all the usual refinements. There is a fully equipped kitchen and an open plan dining/sitting room. Electric lighting and heating (£1 coin meter); solid fuel stove; gas hob; gas cooker including oven; microwave; fridge; hot and cold running water at sinks and washbasins; two shower rooms with electric showers (also on the coin meter); drying room (coin meter); two WCs; storage shed for skis or about 4 bikes. The cost of accomodation is £14 pp/pn, camping is £10pp/pn, petrol is in the region of £15- £20 for passengers. There are 6 spaces booked, but my understanding is there are no other bookings and the LSCC Members room is available for this meet- meaning we can take up to 17 people!
Phone in will be on Tuesday June 18th, to Ian , 8pm-9pm only. Please note your place on the meet cannot be confirmed if you don’t phone Ian to sign up.
Given it’s mid-summer and there’s lots of daylight, as I said earlier, there’s a chance of longer days out.
Don’t forget your £1 coins for the electricity meter so you can have a fridge, shower, hot water for washing your hands and dishes, the drying room and heating (I hope we don’t need the last 2).
Hope to see you there.
Your still slightly wobbly Meets Secretary, still in need of a lottery win.
P.S. A reminder of our next 2 weekend meets, pop them in you diaries if you haven’t already (why not??);
August 9th-11th- Inver Croft, Achnasheen
September 13th-15th Strawberry Cottage Glen Affric
