As the Beast from the East continues its’ merry dance between snow, rain, winds and perishing cold, perhaps your thoughts are turning to the hills and a weekend away on the wondrous west coast? Yes? This coming weekend sees the Ancrum March Weekend Meet, 9th– 11th March, to the wondrous west. This month we are going to the Alex Macintyre Memorial Hut, near Ballachulish, a handy spot for visiting The Ben, The Aonachs, the Mamores, Ben a’Mheither (have I spelt that right?), Glen Coe, Ardgour , Appin and even ski-ing…..
Here’s the gen: The Alex Mac is a well-equipped hut with all the usual refinements- well equipped kitchen with cooker and rings, microwave, fridges etc also showers, drying room, the bedrooms have alpine sleeping platforms with mattresses/ beds- you will need a sleeping bag and towel. The bedroom heaters are on coin meters, which need £1 coins, for the rest of the hut, electricity is included.
Location: North Ballachulish on A82, one mile north of the Ballachulish Bridge, 50 m from the entrance to the Creag Mhor Hotel, (look out for the green fence), OS Map no 41, Grid Ref 044 612. The car park is at the rear of the building and is accessed from the main road via a narrow lane (it tends to jump out at you, so keep your eyes peeled for the green fence and the B&B sign just beyond the turn off).
We have 6 spaces booked, unfortunately the hut is now fully booked and there appear to be no more spaces available. If we have more than 6 people, I will ask the custodian if any more spaces have become available, but can’t promise I will be successful.
The cost for the weekend is £14 pp/pn for accommodation and petrol will be in the region of £25 for passengers. Phone in will be on Tuesday 6th March, to Ian , 8pm-9pm only.
Hopefully, the weather will be kind to us.
See you there,
Your slightly less than beastly Meets Secretary
Heads up for the April Meet, 6th -8th April, to The Cabin at Laggan, another choice area.
