The July 2017 camping meet was to Faichemard Farm in Invergarry. An excellent campsite, spread out over a large area with lovely woodland pitches.
Unfortunately the weather forecast for Saturday was not good, lots of rain and strong winds. Nevertheless we decided to venture up to Kintail and give Ciste Dhubh a try. Despite the weather we made a successful attempt on the summit via An Caorann Beag and Bealach a Chonich, returning via the Glen Affric path through An Caorann Mor. I have to say it was one of the wettest days I have had on the hills for quite sometime and not helped by the strong winds which started to increase as we started the descent. Fortunately our planned descent route was on the lee side of the hill! Underfoot conditions were very wet and boggy which certainly didn’t add to the enjoyment. As to be expected visibility was poor so we didn’t event get any view down into Glen Affric. We finished up the day with a visit to the Clunie Inn to get dried out a bit before heading back to Invergarry. Map of our route available at https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/route/1391470/Ciste-Dhubh.
Sunday dawned with showers and sunny intervals and still windy. All our stuff was still wet from the Saturday so we opted for a forest walk around Glen Garry Forest taking in a route to a rather spectacular waterfall. Interestingly enough there were a couple of waymarked routes in the forest one of which was called the Ciste Dhubh Trail ! Coincidence or was it meant to be …….
No photographs from the hill as it was too wet and miserable for stopping for photo shoots.
